Pertandingan Pakaian Tradisional Johor - Baju Melayu Teluk Belanga Wanita at Danga Bay

I had the most outstanding weekend ever. I participated in Pertandingan Pakaian Tradisional Johor - Baju Melayu Teluk Belanga Wanita at Danga Bay, Johor Bahru yesterday. I did it for the sake of helping my aunt and for fun, nothing else. In fact, it was the only way to put my knowledge gained from TFS classes to the test.

I was praised by Angeline Tan (the actress from Pi Mai Pi Mai Tang Tu who MCed for the show) on my makeup. Yeah, I should get credits on that. I did my own make up. Haha...I practised up to 1a.m. with my aunt in her hotel room to get my footwork right as the moves were based on verses in the 'pantun'. The most difficult part was to remove the 'songket' from my head and wrapped it around my waist while turning around to show my 'sanggul'. My 'sanggul' is called 'Sanggul Sultanah', adorned with fresh roses, jasmine and 'Daun Jermin' which caused my hair to have this sweet smell throughout the day. I must admit, I lacked grace (I'm a contractor, )okay) but I WON 1st place!

The most memorable moment was when all of the contestants sat together backstage with Abun and Angeline Tan. We were so hooked on the movable air cond as it was soo hot that we didn't care about who would win! Haha...However, the best thing is that my makeup didn't melt at all. Even one of the judges said to my mum that my makeup looked nice and she was surprised that I didn't hire any makeup artist!

Areej, my biggest fan, who kept screeming my name and even appeared at the judges' table to see me up close!

Celebrating My Victory (Hooray!) Definitely for keeps!

Darling, our chosen words are a reflection of who we are. We can certainly get our points across with kind words. And, oh, spams are not sexy...
